The pictures for the new Swiss Cup Campaign 2010 are . In the middle of July in Magglingen there was a photo shoot with the gymnasts from the Swiss national team. Those present included the Swiss Cup spokesperson Ariella Kaeslin as well as Niki Böschenstein, Mark Ramseier, Claudio Capelli, Roman Gisi, Pascal Bucher, Guilia Steingruber and Jessica Diacci. In just a short amount of time you will be able to marvel at some of the best photos from the shoot on posters, advertisements, brochures, banners and of course on the Swiss Cup website.

This was the first time that a special photo shoot was organized for Swiss Cup advertising. “With this photo shoot we are able to capture the exact pictures and portrayal we require. Not only this, but there will be a noticeable improvement in the quality and impact of the campaign in comparison to last year,” stated Adrian Sonderegger, Managing Director.

The photographer, Christof Schmid, and the Art Director from the Matter & Gretener Agency demanded a great deal from the gymnasts. From the early morning until the darker hours of the night they were fully engaged and motivated. Here you will find the “Making-Of” video, exclusively for Swiss Cup website visitors:

Zurich, June 9, 2010 – The Swiss Cup Zurich has gone into a partnership with a well-known Swiss...

Zurich, June 9, 2010 – The Swiss Cup Zurich has gone into a partnership with a well-known Swiss artist and sculpturist, Stephan Schmidlin. He will design the trophy that will be awarded to the winning pair at the Swiss Cup Zurich in the Zurich Hallenstadion on October 31, 2010. The realization of this trophy has been made possible by the support of the JB Bommer Stiftung and Club 95.

With the event 2010, Swiss Cup will finally acquire the trophy, or better said the „Cup“ as the name already implies. The organization committee was able to obtain the well-known sculpturist Stephan Schmidlin as the creator/designer. The partnership between Stephan Schmidlin and Swiss Cup Zurich was set in stone as the contract was signed in the atelier of Stephan Schmidlin and in the presence of the Swiss Cup spokeswoman, Ariella Kaeslin.

Schmidlin Predestined as Designer

The focal point of Schmidlin’s artistic expression is the human body where movement is omnipresent. “I am fascinated by the exact anatomical translation of the course of movement, the tension, strength and flexibility of the body”, says Schmidlin. A strong influence was also his past as a former gymnast and cabaret artist (Schmirinskis). Schmidlin was simply predestined to design the Swiss Cup Trophy.

In Favor of World Class Gymnastics in Switzerland

The realization of the trophy has been made possible by the support of gymnastics patrons Club 95 and the Johann Bommer Stiftung. “We decided to support this project because the Swiss Cup is a significant gymnastics event in Switzerland claiming world class athletes and also because this trophy will make the Swiss Cup even more unique”, say August Stolz, President of Club 95 and President of the JB Johann Bommer Stiftung.

First Time Award Presentation on October 31, 2010

The new Swiss Cup trophy will be complete by the end of August 2010. It will be officially presented in September and at the next Swiss Cup Zurich, on October 31, 2010 the trophy will be presented to the champion pair at the award ceremony. In addition, the names of both athletes will be etched on the trophy as well as etched in time, as will all future winners of the Swiss Cup Zurich.

Last Friday on May 28, 2010, the Swiss Cup Zurich organization committee took a seat at the Young Stage International Circus Festival in Basel. (more details under www.youngstage.ch) The main goal of the festival is to give young talent a chance to show their skills and encourage the acquisition of future engagements. The Swiss Cup supported this event with some prize money.

Aside from visiting the festival and presenting the prize money to the winner, the organization committee also want to choose an artist for the Show Act to perform at the Swiss Cup Zurich 2010. The lucky winner is the 21 year old Swiss “Roue Cyr” artist Maxime Pythoud. His performance is done on a so-called “Roue Cyr” which is a wheel similar to a gymwheel. At this time there are very few artists who perform on this piece of equipment. His number is fresh, original and shows a high level of skill – something that goes perfectly with world class gymnastics.

Aside from the Swiss Cup prize, this young artist also was awarded the “Bronzene Stern”. The organization committee hopes that Maxime Pythoud will be able to take this once in a lifetime chance and perform for the Swiss Cup Zurich audience on October 31, 2010 in the Zurich Hallenstadion.

Details will follow shortly.

The Swiss Women’s Gymnastics Team has made history at the European Championships in Birmingham
The...

The Swiss Women’s Gymnastics Team has made history at the European Championships in Birmingham

The 6th place finish for the senior women in the team finals is absolutely sensational. The junior women also had an outstanding performance ending with 7th place and showing lots of potential for the future. Ariella Kaeslin could not defend her European Championship title on the vault from Milan 2009, but instead she placed a strong 5th on the highly competitive event.

In the apparatus finals, Ariella Kaeslin was not having one of her best days. Both of her vaults, the Tschoussowitina and the Yurtschenko with 1 ½ twists, were well executed, but the landings were not clean. The lunges needed to correct her balance cost her the medal. After having participated in the European Championships vaulting final five times, a 5th place ranking is still quite good, despite not being able to defend her title.

The consistency of the women gymnasts on the senior team enabled an improvement of two places after the first qualification round. The shaky 8th qualification place was left in the dust by the fantastic 6th place in the final round. Team leader Ariella Kaeslin performed with poise and confidence as did the two youngest team members, 16 year olds Giuilia Steingruber and Jessica Diacci. For the final, Jennifer Senn came in and performed to her best ability.

The juniors shined with a 7th place win in the team competition, in which two gymnasts qualified for the all-round finals. The strongest Swiss woman, Sara Catanzaro, who reached place 16 in the qualifications, had to forfeit the final round due to a knee injury. It is a small consolation for her to know that she is now recommended for the Olympic Youth Games this coming August. Nadia Baeriswyl replaced Sara Catanzaro and performed with Nadia Mülhauser in the final competition. The two namesakes rounded up the competition with 15th place (Mülhauser) and 19th place (Baeriswyl). The first names of these two young ladies symbolizes the future of women’s gymnastics, Nadia means “hope”.

As a result of the great performances by the junior and senior women’s teams, the Swiss Turnverband, in cooperation with the coaches Zoltan Jordanev (seniors) and François de Saint-Martin (juniors), can look into the future with hope and confidence. “Swiss women’s gymnastics is on the right path!”, said François de Saint-Martin, “I thank all the coaches in the regional gymnastics centers and all those who support us!”

The successful Swiss women’s gymnastics delegation will land at Kloten on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 11:45 on flight LX421. The STV would welcome all those who would like to greet the delegation at this time.

Hour of Glory for Swiss Gymnastics

The final balance of the European Championships in Birmingham can only be described as sensational. “It was a total success, by the men as well as by the women. Sure, the dessert, the medal, is missing. Ariella Kaeslin classified herself again as one of the best with the 5th place”, said a very satisfied Felix Stingelin, Elite Sport Chief of the STV.

Zurich, Switzerland, 25th March 2010- Gymnastics fans can be pleased: on the 29th March 2010 the...

Zurich, Switzerland, 25th March 2010- Gymnastics fans can be pleased: on the 29th March 2010 the advance sale of tickets for this year’s Swiss Cup Zürich, which takes place in the Hallenstadion on the 31st of October 2010, begins. Tickets can be purchased via Ticketcorner as well as at a wide variety of other ticket outlets. Prize money, which has been increased to a total of US$ 100,000, awaits the world-class athletes. An additional innovation is the inclusion of the Kidz Day as a permanent part of the programme.

The Hallenstation will become the centre of international gymnastics on the 31st of October 2010. The world’s elite will meet here for artistic gymnastics just a few days after the world championships in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. 12 teams from all over the world will compete for a lot of prestige and prize money totalling US$ 100,000. The Swiss World Cup Zürich: A unique experience for those who love sport. The advance sale of tickets will begin on the 29th of March via Ticketcorner and the ticket outlets Post, Manor, SBB and Coop City. It is a good idea to get hold of tickets early on as the event organisers are expecting a sold out stadium. The large interest in tickets has a lot to do with Ariella Kaeslin, who has made the sport extremely popular in Switzerland with her exceptional performances. Ariella Kaeslin, the Swiss athlete of the year 2009, is the ambassador for the Swiss Cup Zürich.

Tournament mode provides excitement

The organisation committee expects 7000 visitors, who will once again generate a unique atmosphere in the Hallenstaion. A female and a male athlete respectively make up a national team, a competition structure which provides much in the way of excitement for spectators. The winning team will emerge from a cup system with a preliminary round, semi-final and final.

Kidz Day becomes a concrete point in the programme

The Kidz Day took place for the first time in 2009. Around 130 children and young people were given the opportunity to take part in a special gymnastics lesson together with Swiss Cup athletes. The aim of the event is to instil in children and young people an interest in sport and exercise. Now the organisation has decided to make the Kidz Day a permanent part of the programme at the Swiss Cup. The Kidz Day 2010 takes place on Thursday, October 28th 2010 at the sport facility in Wallisellen.

Swiss Cup Zürich supports the Young Stage Festival

The Swiss Cup Zürich does not just commit itself to promoting young sporting talent. It is supporting this year’s Young Stage Festival with a prize. The circus-festival offers young professional artists from the all of the world a platform where they can present themselves and their talents to an audience and an expert jury. It takes place from the 25th to 28th of May in Basel. For more information, please go to www.young-stage.com.
