16.06.2010
Zurich, June 9, 2010 – The Swiss Cup Zurich has gone into a partnership with a well-known Swiss artist and sculpturist, Stephan Schmidlin. He will design the trophy that will be awarded to the winning pair at the Swiss Cup Zurich in the Zurich Hallenstadion on October 31, 2010. The realization of this trophy has been made possible by the support of the JB Bommer Stiftung and Club 95.
With the event 2010, Swiss Cup will finally acquire the trophy, or better said the „Cup“ as the name already implies. The organization committee was able to obtain the well-known sculpturist Stephan Schmidlin as the creator/designer. The partnership between Stephan Schmidlin and Swiss Cup Zurich was set in stone as the contract was signed in the atelier of Stephan Schmidlin and in the presence of the Swiss Cup spokeswoman, Ariella Kaeslin.
Schmidlin Predestined as Designer
The focal point of Schmidlin’s artistic expression is the human body where movement is omnipresent. “I am fascinated by the exact anatomical translation of the course of movement, the tension, strength and flexibility of the body”, says Schmidlin. A strong influence was also his past as a former gymnast and cabaret artist (Schmirinskis). Schmidlin was simply predestined to design the Swiss Cup Trophy.
In Favor of World Class Gymnastics in Switzerland
The realization of the trophy has been made possible by the support of gymnastics patrons Club 95 and the Johann Bommer Stiftung. “We decided to support this project because the Swiss Cup is a significant gymnastics event in Switzerland claiming world class athletes and also because this trophy will make the Swiss Cup even more unique”, say August Stolz, President of Club 95 and President of the JB Johann Bommer Stiftung.
First Time Award Presentation on October 31, 2010
The new Swiss Cup trophy will be complete by the end of August 2010. It will be officially presented in September and at the next Swiss Cup Zurich, on October 31, 2010 the trophy will be presented to the champion pair at the award ceremony. In addition, the names of both athletes will be etched on the trophy as well as etched in time, as will all future winners of the Swiss Cup Zurich.
